The Extraterrestrial Highway

We've all heard of plane spotting, train spotting, and even celeb spotting, however when in Southern Nevada the only thing we're trying to spot are the elusive aliens and extraterrestrial objects so often sighted in this mysterious state. Travellers can start their celestial adventure 147 miles north of Las Vegas on the Extraterrestrial Highway (Highway 375) in Sand Spring Valley. The highway stretches for 98 miles across the Nevada desert, earning its title in April 1996, thanks to the hundreds of claims of UFO sightings along the lonely stretch of road, and its proximity to the mysterious former nuclear testing facility, Area 51. During a journey along the ET Highway travellers will come across the tiny town of Rachel, the UFO capital of the world - a former mining town now a buzz with visitors and alien spotters, owing to the frequent UFO sightings in the area.

Rachel, the UFO Capital of the World

Located along the Extraterrestrial Highway, approximately 150 miles north of Las Vegas, this small town with just 100 inhabitants is a regular location for fans of UFO's stopping over to learn about the peculiar Air Force testing facility. Like many of Nevada's town, Rachel was once a mining town which closed over 20 years ago. The first UFO spotting was in 1989 and since then the town has been bustling with visitors. A popular stop off is the Little A'Le'Inn- (pronounced "alien"), where people flock from across the state to check out the UFO photos on the walls and try their famous alien burger, over a chat with residents about any recent sightings.
