Marrakech – Africa’s Premier City Break

27 Jan 2015

Marrakech in Morocco is North Africa's top city break destination with most visitors spending 2 or 3 nights in the buzzing city, however Marrakech has so much more to offer than just a short shopping trip around the Medina.

To the south of the city are the beautifully snow-capped Atlas Mountains, many local agents offer day trips to the foothills but for a true experience of this area of outstanding natural beauty you may want to consider staying in one of the many boutique hotels the area has to offer. For the more adventurous traveller consider crossing the entire mountain range for a visit to the Unesco World Heritage site Ait Benhaddou, a fortified city on the caravan route to the Sahara famed for its Kasbahs.

For those that want to combine a city with a beach experience there are many transport links to either Agadir which is well known for its surfing or the largest city in Morocco, Casablanca rich with history and culture.

Marrakech itself has a wide variety of accommodation options, for that authentic Moroccan experience a stay in one of the many converted riads is a must, many have been renovated in traditional morocco style with mosaic tiling and relaxing hammams. There are also a wide variety of hotels, from child friendly all inclusive options with water slides, to the quieter luxury spa style hotels where you can while away your days with a good pampering.

Getting to Marrakech from the UK is easy and affordable with many low cost carriers offering flights from many regional airports. If you are flexible and are looking for a cheap flight to Marrakech you can pick up deals from as little as £50 return for a midweek break, weekends are slightly higher in price as they are more popular.
