"The Grey City"

Did you know that Berlin wasn’t only separated into a West and East German part but that it was actually been inhabited by a Slavic people since the times of its foundation? You read right: historically, Berlin is a truly multicultural city. Couple that with years of interesting history, architecture from many different epochs, a vast array of great museums, the all-famous currywurst and a truly vibrant feel all-over the city, and you know that any trip to this place is going to be amazing. Book cheap flight tickets to Berlin now and hop on the next flight to this cosmopolitan city!

Berlin came into life when two towns that were founded in the beginning of the 13th century, Berlin and Cölln, merged into a larger settlement. The city used to be small but started to grow considerably in the 17th century, which was partly due to its tolerance. Berlin welcomed religious, economic and asylum seekers and was, thus, a safe haven for many. In 1701, it became the capital of Prussia and later of the German Reich. The city was heavily destructed in the end of WWII and rebuilt with a considerable effort. From 1945 to 1989, Berlin was divided by the Berlin Wall.

Of course, the remainders of this wall and Checkpoint Charlie should be on your bucket list when you’re headed to Berlin. They are some of the most significant sights of the city! Another must is the Brandenburg Gate, which isn’t just a replica of the Acropolis in Athens and one of the most famous buildings of Classic architecture, it also is THE landmark in Berlin. Right next to it is the Reichstag, which was renovated by Sir Norman Foster and features a spectacular glass dome. Also, check out the Berliner Dom, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the New Synagogue to get your share of churches while on the trip.

In terms of museums, you should check out the Museumsinsel, particularly the Pergamom Museum with its Greek, ancient Middle-Eastern and Islamic arts and architecture. Equally interesting is the Jüdisches Museum – a museum about the history of the Jews in Germany. Round off your trip with a great view over the city – from the highest building in Berlin, the Berliner Fernsehturm.

Getting around in Berlin is as uncomplicated as it gets. The city is home to excellent bus, tram, underground and train services, which means that you can get literally everywhere without any great headaches.

The best time to compare and book cheap flight tickets to Berlin is between May and September, when temperatures are warm enough to stroll around outdoors.
