"The Dear Green Place"

Glasgow is the biggest city in Scotland and receiver of many award titles, like City of Culture (1990), City of Architecture and Design (1999), Capital of Sport (2003) and UNESCO City of Music (2008). These titles make one fact very obvious: the city should be on any traveler's bucket list! And with plenty of flight options it is easy to compare and cheap flight tickets to Glasgow. Tickets are available easily and in plenty.

Founded in the 6th century by Christian missionary Saint Mungo, the city quickly became a religious center and later turned into a hub for trade. Due to its favorable location at the River Clyde, ships could easily transport goods into or out of the city, making it one of the richest cities of the world in the 19th century. This boom strongly influenced the city's architecture; you will find the finest Victorian and Edwardian buildings in its center. However, cheap labour abroad decreased the competitiveness of Glasgow's industry and sent the city into economic decline. Through the city authority's efforts since the 1980s, the city has transformed itself into a commercial and tourist hub.

An absolute must-see while in Glasgow is the city cathedral with its stunning Gothic architecture. If you want to get a taste of the typical English drink in special atmosphere, check out the Willow Tea Rooms on 217 Sauchiehall St. This is a themed tea room from 1904, which has been lovingly restored. For some stunning Victorian architecture, take a stroll to the Glasgow City Chambers or the main building of the University of Glasgow – they are particularly renowned for their exquisite building style.

In addition to that, Glasgow has an excellent array of museums. One of the best-known possibly is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum with its many exhibits. Their Expression wing features artists like Salvador Dalí! A special Scottish treat is the Old Govan Church and Govan Stones – a unique collection of medieval stones that were carved in the 9th to 11th centuries and belong to Glasgow's most important historical assets.

Getting around in Glasgow is a breeze. The city center is very pedestrian-friendly, and cars aren't allowed in many of the streets. Even outside of the center, the city is walkable. However, the public transport network also is extensive and well-developed. You can get around by subway, train or bus.

The best time to visit Glasgow is from March to August, when temperatures are highest and flight tickets prices are reasonable. As anywhere else on the British islands, the weather is changing often, and you should come prepared.

There are many cheap flights to Glasgow which are available at best price. You just have to compare flights to Glasgow from London and book your cheapest flights to Glasgow which fits well within your budget.
