Islamabad, also called “the beautiful”, is the underestimated capital of Pakistan. The Lok Virsa museum, for example, features more than 25 large galleries and has large halls dedicated to architecture, musical heritage, textiles and many other cultural themes. Also, the Golra Pakistan Railways Heritage Museum is another gem with an old, renovated station and several old locomotives. Another must-see is the National Art Gallery with its many exhibits of contemporary and classical paintings.

Definitely a must on the bucket list is the beautiful Faisal Mosque, which was a gift by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. And if you are interested into the cultural traces and history of the region, you won’t regret checking out Saidpur Village. This small village was influenced by many different civilizations, including Greek, Gandhara, Buddhist and Ashoka. It also has a colonial heritage! Also, a tour through Islamabad’s twin city, Rawalpindi, is a must. Contrary to the capital, this city has thousands of years of history!

You best get around Islamabad by taxi or bus. The best time to travel there is from November to April, when the weather is slightly cooler.
