Cheap Flights to Manila

"Pearl of the Orient"

Manila is the capital of the Philippines and rich in history, culture and activities. In fact, it is one of the most underestimated cities in Asia, and with the many cheap flight tickets to Manila from UK, it is easy to get to! Always on the go and bustling with life 24 hours a day, Manila is a big city of 12 million inhabitants that combines Filippino heritage with Spanish, Chinese and American influences. You should plan several days to see the city’s historical enclave, Intramuros, as well as Manila Bay and Makati.

The city originally was a Tagalog settlement that fell under Spanish rule in 1571. After having been destroyed in the catastrophic earthquake of 1863, the city was rebuilt in a thoroughly modern way. The Japanese occupation (1942-1945) and destruction of WWII made it necessary for the city to be rebuilt once more. Thus, Manila nowadays is a truly modern city, and many districts are on par with London or New York!

Best start your trip with a visit of Manila’s old town, Intramuros. This walled city was once called “The Pearl of the Orient” and has some stunning architecture and interesting history to offer. Fort Santiago, the San Augustin Church and Manila Cathedral should absolutely be on your bucket list. However, we recommend taking a walking tour to also learn more about the entire background of this city. Most of the tours start at Fort Santiago. And the Baroque-style San Augustin Church is one of the only buildings that survived WWII entirely unharmed.

To learn more about the country’s history, check out the Presidential Museum and Library, where the country’s development from colony to democracy and later dictatorship and back is explained in an entertaining way. Round off your trip to the history of Manila with a visit to the University of Santo Tomas. Founded in 1611, this is the oldest university in Asia!

Are you into aquariums? Then check out the Manila Ocean Park – it received excellent ratings on Trip Advisor! The National Museum is just around the corner and worth a visit as well. To get a feel of the city’s modern development, take a stroll through the Bonifacio Global City.

Are you in awe about all the historical sites already? Well, Manila tops this with its many food stalls. This city is a foodie paradise, and a visit without an extensive tasting through the street foods on offer just isn’t complete! If you’re really courageous, try balut – a delicacy throughout most of Asia.

Getting around Manila is easiest with the Strong Republic Transit System (SRTS). The yellow, orange and purple lines will get you anywhere in the city. Also, using tricycles or pedicabs is quite common in the city, whereas bus routes serving the city areas are relatively scarce.

The best time to travel to Manila is from late November to early March, when the weather is slightly cooler and less humid.

It's time to compare cheapest flight tickets to Manila if you're looking for a cost-effective flight to this wonderful city.
