5 Easter Sunshine Destinations

Taking an Easter break is a great way to eliminate those winter blues, but it's not easy to find somewhere where the weather is guaranteed to be good without spending 10 or more hours on a plane. The good news is, by the time March comes around, there are plenty of places closer to home which offers the chance to catch some much-needed sun. All the destinations in this guide are within a four and half hour flight time, so you can spend less time on the plane and more time topping up your tan.

Here are our top destinations for a short Easter break with sunshine guaranteed:

#1: The Canary Islands

It's a bit obvious but the Canaries really do make for an excellent holiday this time of year. The weather is nice and balmy and the hotels are not too busy. So there should be plenty of space available on the beach. If you're looking for a family break then Lanzarote is the place to be. For those looking for a little more adventure get off the beaten track and head for one of the smaller islands, such as El Hierro or La Gomera.

Flights to the Canary Islands are available from Manchester, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Liverpool, East Midlands, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

#2: Crete

Flights to Crete are relatively cheap at this time of year. We recommend Heraklion on the northern shores of the Island for families. The city is steeped in history and offers up to eight hours of sunshine during March/April. The southern part of the island is less developed but offers some excellent smaller hotels which are perfect for a quiet romantic getaway.

Flights to Crete are available from all London airports, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow.

#3: Cyprus

The weather in Cyprus is the hottest in the Mediterranean during March and April, with temperatures averaging 21C. Paphos is the largest resort and offers great deals for families. If you're looking for something more than sun, sea, and sand, then Alamas on the Northern coast is the place to be. This is the place where Aphrodite met her lover Adonis and it offers beautiful scenery which can be explored using the many hundreds of miles of hiking trails.

Cheap flights to Cyprus are available from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Manchester, and Edinburgh.

#4: Morocco

If you're looking for something a little more exotic, then Marrakech is stunning at this time of year. The grass is still green after the winter rains and the spring flowers are in full bloom. The temperature is also perfect, there is none of the overpowering heat which Morocco suffers from in the height of summer, daily temperatures should average around 27C, perfect for topping up your tan.

Cheap flights to Morocco are available from Gatwick, Manchester, and Luton airports.

#5: Sicily

What better way to spend your Easter break than touring the ancient Sicilian city of Palermo. Sitting on the southern tip of Europe this exotic city offers a heady mix of Arabesque domes, Byzantine mosaics, and frescoes cupolas. While there is a small risk of rain during March/April, average daily temperatures should remain around 18C. That makes it the perfect time to explore what this amazing island has to offer without the overpowering heat which plagues the city in summer.

Flights to Sicily are available from most UK airports including Manchester, Gatwick, Stansted, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.
